Gorgeous Weekend
Last weekend we loaded our car with all our camping gear and headed out on a rock n roll pilgrimage to the Gorge Amphitheatre to commune with other devote followers at the holy Sasquatch festival. For those who are not yet practicing believers of the alternative music scene, please enlighten yourself at the altar of wikipedia. Overall it was a very positive experience, saw some incredible bands such as Arcade Fire, Bjork, and the Beastie Boys. Also discovered some new bands, such as Ghostland Observatory (my favorite), Neko Case (apparently has been around for a while), and The Hold Steady. The festival is a 2 day event, we arrived Friday evening and left Monday morning. Instead of going into great detail here is the skinny version of the pros/cons.
Pros
- Discovered new bands (mentioned above).
- Great weather, until the wind storm on Sunday night.
- Quality time with Amy and my brother in-law (check out his blog on the venue).
- Beautiful scenery
Cons
- The campground was a 24 hour frat party and your neighbor was less than 12 inches away.
- The Wild Horse Campground, apparently this is the more luxerious alternative to the dusty grounds at the amphitheatre.
- $10 beers, $7 meals, and $5 cokes within the amphitheatre.
- No civilization within miles, except for George (most of the residents appear to resent concert goers).
- The last night the winds picked up and they had to shut down the main stage for over an hour. The temp dropped ( or felt like) 20 degrees.

Jenny and I thought about going, too. Couple of festivals happening in August though. And of course bumbershoot in Seattle at the beginning of September. Anyway, glad you had a good time. Music festivals are awesome - perfect summer entertainment.
