Blue Hawaiian Anniversary

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Blue HawaiiWell it’s been one year since Amy and I tied the knot. We celebrated this milestone by basking on the beaches of Kona, Hawaii. As I write this post, thinking back to everything that has happened in the last year, I get chills thinking about how we have both changed and have grown even more in love with each other. Hawaii was a perfect setting for our anniversary, particularly the Big Island. The island is one of the most diverse places I have ever visited; containing tropical forests, lava fields, high deserts, and beautiful sandy beaches. (The big island actually has white, black, and green sand beaches) (Also the big island is actually named Hawaii..interesting??) Big Island Volcano With a perfect mean temp of 80 degrees and ocean water nearly as warm, it’s probably the closest place to paradise. We spent our time doing various things as horseback riding through the Waipi’o Valley, snorkeling in the clear waters of Captain Cooks Bay, and taking a hella cool copter ride over Mauna Loa (she’s been unhappy for 20+ years!). The trip was amazing and so was this last year. Kona SnorkelingWhat’s that you ask? Oh, yeah my point, why the Big Island was a perfect spot for our anniversary? Amy complements me as a person in many different ways that life without her would be, well, incomplete. Without sounding too sappy, thinking back through the year, we have both grown and have been stretched in many positive directions. Just as we have grown, the Big Island is actually growing day by day. There is earth there that is less than a day old. I guess what I’m trying to say in an extremely cheesy metaphorical way is that Hawaii represents us united and the lava is the love that spills out on a daily basis creating a new platform for beautiful things to grow (no we’re not expecting yet - this is a metaphor!). I simply wouldn’t be the same without her, and we have both emerged after this year as different people. This last year has has truly shaped me into a better person, and it wasn’t possible without Amy. Horseback Riding Waipio ValleyOk, ok, now that you’ve wiped the tears from your cheek let me conclude with this, basically, if you haven’t been to Hawaii, you need to go. It is an amazing place, with a rich history and a diverse climate that is really hard to beat anywhere on the mainland.

Central Europe Part 1 - Austrian Dream

Monday, June 5th, 2006

vienna03.jpgOne of the main reasons we haven’t posted anything for the last 2 months was because we were in Europe. I know it’s not the greatest excuse, and I know so many anonymous strangers really live vicariously through our action packed blog. (Creepy…yet there is something strangely satisfying publicizing your life). Ah, yes, the main topic, Europe. This was my first trip to Europe, unless you count the day I spent in Frankfurt airport last year traveling to the Middle East, and this was Amy’s 2nd trip. The trip was divided into 4 portions in the so limited timeframe of 10 days. The first portion is our first 2 days in Austria (mainly Vienna), 2 days in Slovakia, 3 days in Czech Republic, and 3 days in Slovakia. My goal is, over a period of a couple of weeks, is to journal each section of the itinerary.

Day 1 - Tuckered Out Travels
vienna01.jpg

Our journey began at the Medford Airport International airport at 7 am. We were to catch a United flight to San Fran, then hop onto the international to London, and then to Vienna. We arrived late at night, around 10pm local time, and 10 hours late from our expected time of arrival. The owner of our Hostel was nice enough to stay late and keep the light on, The Bag and Map, which I highly recommend for any European sojourner traveling through Vienna. Vienna is a very expensive city, and a clean, quiet, and very economic stay is a must. We spent the next day touring the old city center, visiting St. Stephens Cathedral, and eating lunch at a Chinese Austrian restaurant. Later in the evening we went to a concert at the The Kursalon. Realistically there was just too much see of Vienna in one day, and it didn’t help that we were extremely jet lagged. vienna02.jpgSomeday, someday, we’re coming back to you Vienna…

A butt load of happenings

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Essentially, the metaphorical box of clutter, my(our) life, has been tossed and shook up. Here is a brief synopsis of the happenings, and I promise more details are coming very soon.

I no longer work for Plexis, yes, you heard correctly. I took a job for Wells Fargo as an Operations Analyst 3 (whatever that means), and now have a daily commute from Portland to Beaverton. Yes, I have moved to Portland, the cradle of all that is keen and fancy. And yes, Amy and I are still together. However, Amy is still in Medford (temporarily…) :-( .

After the hellish and emotional move, Amy and I packed our bags and left for central Europe. Visited Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic; oh and Caleb too (my brother).

Anyways, to dispel any rumors that our blog was dead, simply not true. We’re back and are writing with a fury!

Dobredien!
